About the Artist

Fiona Hooper

Fiona Hooper photographMy interest in art began when I was young, and much of my childhood was spent drawing and painting. At that time most of my subjects were horses, and although they are still a favourite, my subjects are now much more diverse.

Many things inspire me to paint, with landscapes being my current special interest, especially the effects of light and atmospheric conditions. Animals and people are also favourite themes, but whatever I am painting my aim is to capture the essence of my subject. I paint mainly in oils, but also work in acrylic, mixed media, fine art coloured pencil, and graphite pencil, and I always use the highest quality materials.

I have studied with the Open College of the Arts, and taken life painting and drawing classes, together with ongoing study. My work has won a number of local and national awards, and is held in private collections in the UK, France and America.

I have completed many commissioned portraits, both of animals and people, including several commissions which have been from repeat clients. I also accept landscape commissions.

Paintings may be viewed at my Surrey studio by appointment.

As well as running a local art group near my home in Surrey, I give demonstrations and welcome the opportunity to contribute and help other artists as I have been helped in the past.

For me the beauty of art is that it is a never ending journey, on which I am continually learning and growing.
